Platinum Strains

FOR HOMEBREW SHOPS -- Now is the time to experiment for homebrewers. During the months of January and February, White Labs is offering two exciting yeast strains to homebrewers as part of its popular Platinum Series specials:

Belgian Golden Ale (WLP570) – From East Flanders, this versatile yeast can produce light Belgian ales to high gravity Belgian beers (12 percent ABV). Its flavor is dominated by a combination of fruitiness and phenolic characteristics. Some sulfur is produced during fermentation, which will dissipate following the end of fermentation. Attenuation: 75-80 percent. Flocculation: low.

Klassic Ale (WLP033) – This is a traditional English style, single strain yeast. It produces signature ester character, and does not mask hop character. It leaves your ale with a slightly sweet malt character. Best for bitters, milds, porters, and stouts. Also good for Scottish-style ales. Attenuation: 66-74 percent. Flocculation: medium.

For those unfamiliar with the program, the Platinum Series, introduced in 2000, provides homebrew shops with two different strains every other month. These strains are from White Labs’ private collection and are generally only available to professional brewers. But this program offers homebrewers a chance to use interesting and sometimes exotic strains.
